Horticulture Magazine to Host 2008 Symposium on design, plants,
and garden style with Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park
Cincinnati—August 22, 2008—Horticulture magazine, together with Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park, will host a special symposium, “Smaller Gardens/Real Solutions: Successful Planting in Shade & Sun” on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Conference Center (formerly the Burns Horticulture Center) at Planting Fields in Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY. Registration for the day-long event is available online at www.hortprograms.com or by calling toll-free 877-GDN-PROG (877-436-7764).
For fifteen years, Horticulture has delivered a series of prestigious gardening symposia, in collaboration with leading botanic gardens and plant groups, to garden enthusiasts around the country. Thousands of participants have benefited from Horticulture’s tradition of bringing together an international panel of experts to address the newest design ideas, the most exciting plants, and the best in international trends in garden making.
The 2008 program promises to be livelier than ever. “Smaller Gardens/Real Solutions: Successful Planting in Shade & Sun” is about working with the reality of your site, planting for both sun and shade, and developing a natural design.
Speakers include Helen Dillon, award-winning author, broadcaster, and garden consultant; C. Colston Burrell, author, photographer, lecturer, garden designer and principal of Native Landscape Design and Restoration; John Elsley, plantsman, avid gardener and director of horticulture at Klehm’s Song Sparrow Farm and Nursery; Stephanie Cohen, author, gardener, teacher, and TV’s Perennial Diva; and Nan Sinton, director of programs for Horticulture and also an experienced designer and hands-on gardener.
“Learn how to work with the reality of a small site, whether it’s in shade or sun—or both. Keynote speaker Helen Dillon will help you turn a fresh eye on your garden and evaluate the site’s potential for both design and plants,” says Sinton, “while C. Colston Burrell, John Elsley and Stephanie Cohen will show you how to choose and combine the perfect plants for every spot.”
The registration fee is $128 for Horticulture subscribers and members of Planting Fields, and $138 for all others. Space is limited.
